You may find it hard to make good decisions right now, and you’re not alone. There are several factors that come together that cause this difficulty. There is a real and present threat in the world. There is a lot of uncertainty. Your habits have all been disrupted. In this session, Dr. Markman wants to help you understand the relationship between the motivations engaged by the coronavirus crisis and your emotions and how that affects your ability to make decisions. Then, using this knowledge, he explores ways to slow the decision-making process down to make better choices now and in any time of significant uncertainty. Art Markman, PhD is the Annabel Irion Worsham Centennial Professor of Psychology, HDO, and Marketing and the Executive Director of the IC2 Institute. His research explores reasoning, decision making, and motivation. Art brings insights from cognitive science to a broader audience through his blogs at Psychology Today and Fast Company as well as his radio show/podcast Two Guys on Your Head produced by KUT radio in Austin. He is the author of several books including Smart Thinking, Smart Change, Brain Briefs, and Bring Your Brain to Work. When Art isn’t working or spending time with his family, he can be found playing saxophone in the ska band Phineas Gage.
