In this 2012 talk for the Mind Science Foundation, psychologist and Zen teacher Flint Sparks shares techniques for personal and spiritual development, encouraging us to “wake up and grow up.”

With graduate degrees in both biology and psychology Flint Sparks, Ph.D., is also a Zen teacher who leads retreats throughout the United States and Europe. His early research and counseling experience with the terminally ill inspired him to investigate the influence of consciousness in physical healing and emotional well-being, resulting in his development of spiritual and psychological techniques for ongoing practices of “growing up and waking up” as we travel the path of our own personal and spiritual development. Dr. Sparks founded the Austin Zen Center, is a resident teacher at Appamada, and is an adjunct faculty at Seton Cove in Austin, Texas.
