This interview took place in July 2012, at Understanding Consciousness: Neuroscientific Approaches, Future Directions, a conference sponsored by the Mind Science Foundation of San Antonio, Texas.
The meeting gathered a small group of brilliant neuroscientists working on the question of how the wet matter of the brain produces subjective conscious awareness. Coming from around the world, and working in an intimate setting, they had the opportunity to share deeply about their work – something that isn’t always possible in large conference settings. Participants assessed the state of the science – explored “next steps” – and brainstormed about how to effectively translate the beauty and complexity of the scientific process to the general public.
